December 2025: Move Your Body for 30 Minutes Every Day

Last month, I was out on a run when my neighbor who often sees me jogging by, pulled up in her car, rolled down her window, and complimented my discipline and commitment to staying active. What she didn’t know was that just a few days later, I would be having my bilateral mastectomy. I wasn’t running for the sake of discipline alone—future me was going to need every bit of strength and endurance I could build. I needed to keep moving.

I recently heard someone say on a podcast: “Your discipline must be stronger than your excuses.” That line stuck with me.

As soon as I was safely able to post-surgery, I started walking again—slowly—averaging a 22–23 minute mile. This week, five weeks after surgery, I completed parkrun at a 15-minute mile, a huge improvement that came little by little. Being in shape going into surgery made a world of difference in my recovery, not just physically but mentally. But here’s the truth: my “comeback” didn’t start after surgery. It started long before, built through consistent, simple discipline—showing up for at least 30 minutes of movement several times a week.

If you do one thing for your health, start here: get a good pair of sneakers and move your body for 30 minutes a day. Try it for a month—and let me know how you feel.
